Privacy
PlantingWindow is a lookup tool, and it is built to need as little from you as possible.
What we process
When you search, the ZIP code or city you type is sent to this site's own server to compute the answer, like any web request. It is used transiently for that computation. We do not ask for your street address. If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission and your coordinates are sent once to this site's own server, matched to the nearest ZIP area, and discarded — never stored, and nothing happens unless you tap it. Standard web-server logs (IP address, requested URL, timestamp) may exist at our hosting provider for security and reliability. We add no advertising, fingerprinting, or cross-site personalization.
The one optional third-party request
Result pages offer a “Check current NWS frost & freeze alerts” button. Only if you click it, your browser asks the National Weather Service (api.weather.gov, a U.S. government service) for active alerts near the climate point already shown on the page. We send no identifiers with it, and no request is made without that click. NWS has its own privacy policy.
What stays on your device
The planting calendar's selections (your chosen location and crops) are stored in your browser's local storage under the key pw.calendar.v1, so the calendar is still there when you return. It stays in this browser; clearing your browser storage removes it. There are no accounts and no server-side profiles.
Counting visits
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and referrers in aggregate, so we can see which pages are useful. It sets no cookies, does not follow you between sites, and builds no profile of you; its script is served from this site's own domain rather than a third party. We cannot identify individual visitors from it.
We also use Google Analytics 4 for aggregate acquisition and page-performance reporting. Google signals and advertising personalization are disabled. Google Analytics may use first-party measurement cookies according to your browser settings.
Cookies
PlantingWindow sets no account or advertising cookies. Google Analytics may set first-party measurement cookies.
If you email a correction, we use your message to investigate and reply, and keep it as a record of the report.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the change will be dated here. This page describes the product as shipped in this build.
