Corrections

A site that computes from data can be wrong in specific, fixable ways: a stale dataset, a misread source, a parsing bug, a station that misrepresents a neighborhood. Reports are genuinely useful — here is how to make one count.

How to report

Email corrections@plantingwindow.comwith the page URL, what you expected, and (if you have it) the authoritative source you're comparing against. For window disputes, note that this site intentionally shows conservative, probability-labeled ranges — “my seed packet says earlier” usually reflects a different risk tolerance rather than an error; the methodology explains the reconciliation rule we apply when authorities differ.

What gets fixed how

Data errors (wrong zone for a ZIP, wrong freeze date for a station) are checked against the upstream files recorded in the manifest — current build generated 2026-07-25 — and fixed by re-running the pipeline, never by hand-editing outputs. Rule errors (a misquoted extension offset) are fixed in the crop registry alongside their citations. Material corrections are noted on this page with a date once the site is in production.

Upstream cadence

NOAA normals are fixed until the next 30-year release; the USDA map and Census Gazetteer update on their own schedules. When upstream versions change, the sources page and manifest change with them.
